Please read my disclosure. This blueberry pineapple smoothie is full of healthy benefits and ready in just 5 minutes! I love that it packs an antioxidant punch from the frozen wild blueberries and spinach, gets natural sweetness from the bananas and pineapple, and includes added protein from plain Greek yogurt. This delicious smoothie is super easy, satisfying, and my kids love it too.

Summer is the perfect time for smoothies, but I find they make a great, easy breakfast or snack any time of year. When I was a kid, my mom would make strawberry-banana “milkshake desserts” on weekday mornings as a quick breakfast that was still healthy and filling. I always thought they were sugary treats, but I had no idea they were just strawberries, bananas, plain yogurt, and ice, with no milk or added sugar at all.
Thanks to the creaminess from the yogurt and the sweetness from the banana, it tasted just like a milkshake. This pineapple blueberry smoothie recipe is inspired by the healthy tricks my mom used when I was a kid. It is super filling and satisfying, kid-friendly, and a great way to sneak a bunch of fruits and veggies into a picky eater’s diet. I can take it on the go, and it can easily be made vegan too. This smoothie is another great option alongside my jackfruit smoothie and banana peach smoothie for a variety of healthy drinks.
👩🏽🍳 Why I Love This Recipe
On hectic weekday mornings, my two kids and I love to gather in the kitchen while I blend up this colorful smoothie. Sometimes I make it for myself after a workout, and it is the perfect way to refuel with a healthy dose of vitamins, minerals, and protein.
This smoothie works so well because of its wholesome ingredients. I use frozen wild blueberries and bananas for a creamy texture, fresh pineapple for sweetness, and baby spinach to sneak in greens. Plain Greek yogurt adds protein, ground flax seeds provide healthy fats, and milk helps blend everything smoothly. I just throw it all in my high-powered blender, blend until perfectly smooth, and I’m done in 5 minutes.
This smoothie is the best for busy parents, kids, or anyone who wants a quick, nutrient-packed breakfast, snack, or post-workout drink. My kids love it so much that they ask for it after they have played outside with the neighborhood kids, and then they share it with their playmates. The other kids love it too, and it quickly becomes everyone’s favorite post-play treat. With its smooth texture, natural sweetness, and high fiber and protein content, I really consider this the best blueberry pineapple smoothie ever.
🥘 Ingredients
This easy blueberry smoothie only requires a few simple ingredients that I can find at any grocery store! Check out the following ingredients I use:

Frozen Wild Blueberries: While I can use fresh blueberries, I find that frozen blueberries give this pineapple blueberry banana smoothie a smoother, creamier consistency. I choose wild blueberries because they pack more antioxidants than regular blueberries.
Frozen Banana: I use frozen banana for natural sweetness and creaminess. Fresh works too, but frozen makes the smoothie extra thick.
Fresh Pineapple: I usually buy pre-cut pineapple chunks to save on prep time.
Plain Greek Yogurt: I use nonfat Greek yogurt, but low-fat or full-fat options work if I want a creamier smoothie. For a sweeter, dessert-like version, I sometimes use vanilla Greek yogurt, though it has added sugar.
Baby Spinach: I add baby spinach to sneak in some greens. I can also use baby kale, but regular kale has a stronger flavor and more fibrous texture.
Milk: I usually use low-fat milk, but any type works. Unsweetened almond, coconut, oat, or other plant-based milk all taste great in this smoothie.
Ground Flax Seed: I add ground flax seed for extra protein and healthy fats.
Water and Ice Cubes: I include both as needed to reach the consistency I want for the smoothie.
🔪 How To Make
This recipe couldn’t be any easier to make, which makes it a great option when I need a healthy breakfast in a hurry. Here are the steps:
Prep: In my blender, I combine all the ingredients, adding the liquid first to make blending easier.

Blend: I blend everything until smooth, then scrape down the sides of the container and blend once more to make sure everything is fully combined.

Serve: I like to serve this healthy blueberry, banana, and pineapple smoothie immediately and enjoy it right away!

💭 Expert Tips
My #1 Secret Tip for this recipe is to drink the pineapple blueberry spinach smoothie as soon as I make it. Freshly blended smoothies have the best texture and flavor right away, before the fruit settles and the greens start to break down, so everything tastes bright and smooth instead of watery or grainy.
Other Tips To Keep In Mind:
- Fresh or Frozen Fruit: I use either fresh or frozen fruit, but frozen is great for convenience and helps make the smoothie extra cold and thick.
- Blender Recommendation: I always use a high-powered blender for this smoothie. I absolutely love my Vitamix, but I’ve heard that this blender by CleanBlend is comparable and more affordable.
- Vegan Option: To make this smoothie vegan, use a vegan protein powder instead of Greek Yogurt, and swap out the milk for coconut or almond milk (make sure to get the unsweetened variety with no carrageenan).
📖 Variations
There are so many ways I like to customize this pineapple and blueberry smoothie. Here are some of my favorite variations:
Strawberry : I either replace the banana with frozen strawberries or add 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries along with the banana.
Mango: When is mango season, I love replacing the banana with 1/4 cup of frozen mango or add the mango along with the rest of the ingredients.
Without Yogurt: If you are not a fan of Greek yogurt, just replace it with a scoop of your favorite protein powder or leave it out altogether.
🍽 Serving Suggestions
I love serving this blueberry pineapple smoothie with a handful of high protein granola for crunch or a slice of avocado toast with honey for extra protein.
It also pairs perfectly with a muffin, like a pistachio muffin or savory vegetable muffin, for a balanced and satisfying snack for the kiddos.
🧊 Storage Directions
Refrigerating: This will keep in the fridge for up to 12 hours, but you’ll have to re-stir it since the ingredients will separate in the fridge over time.
❓Recipe FAQs
If my smoothie turns out too thin, it usually means there is too much liquid or not enough frozen fruit. I try reducing the milk or water slightly, or I add more frozen bananas or blueberries to thicken it naturally.
For a creamy texture, I always use frozen bananas and blueberries. Fresh fruit can make the smoothie thinner. I also like to add yogurt or a small amount of nut butter to create a richer and smoother drink.
Yes, but the smoothie will be less creamy. If I only have water, I add a spoonful of yogurt or nut butter for better texture.

Made this for my 5yr old in a hurry and it came together so quickly and he loved it! I didn’t use ice and didn’t have flax meal handy so I added some wheat germ instead. Perfect for his back to school snack in the morning, and mine too! Thanks Anjali!
Awww yay!! I’m so happy to hear that Sumi! Love the wheat germ substitute too! 🙂
I make this a lot and my Husband totally enjoys it! I love how it doesn’t come out too sweet.

Blueberries and Bananas what a great combo!
Totally! They pair so well together!
How much blueberries would be considered too much for this recipe?
If you like the flavor of blueberries you can totally add more than 1 cup, but you probably won’t taste the banana much if you go higher than 1 cup for the recipe!
I love Bananas but I would rather not have them because they are high in carbs but I love how quick and easy it is to make this!
That makes sense! You can substitute the bananas for apples, pears, or even strawberries and still come out with a delicious smoothie!
