The Best Greens Powder For Kids: A Nutritionist And Mom’s Honest Take

As a Board-Certified Health Coach, nutritionist, and mom of two, I’ve tried just about every kids’ greens powder out there, and honestly, most of them didn’t make the cut. Either the ingredients weren’t clean enough, or my kids refused to touch it after day one.

In this review, I’m going to share my honest take on Hiya’s Vanilla Greens + Superfoods for Kids, after several weeks of testing it with my own kids. If you’re curious about this greens powder, I’ll tell you everything you need to know. I’ll walk through what’s inside, how it tastes, what makes it different, and whether it’s worth adding to your child’s routine.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’m always looking for ways to add extra veggies and greens into my kids’ diets. That’s why I was so excited when Hiya released their new Vanilla Greens + Superfoods for kids! I’ve trusted their multivitamin for years, but a greens powder? That’s a much harder sell for most kids – so I had to see how my own kids would feel about it.

If you’re short on time, here’s my quick summary: Hiya is the cleanest, most thoughtfully formulated kids’ greens powder I’ve found, and I know I’ll be using it for my own family for the long run. My kids absolutely love it. But just like any supplement, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution, and I’ll help you decide if it’s the right fit for your child

The Bottom Line: Why I Recommend Hiya Greens + Superfoods

If you’ve ever tried sneaking spinach or spirulina into a smoothie only to have your kid instantly detect it, you’re not alone! Leafy greens have a pretty strong taste and most kids reject them outright. That’s exactly why I appreciate what Hiya has done here.

Hiya Vanilla Greens is:

  • Packed with 55+ whole-food-based ingredients: fruits, veggies, greens, and superfoods. And many of the ingredients are organic, which is an added bonus!
  • Free from added sugar, artificial sweeteners, or synthetic junk.
  • Non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free
  • Hiya is third-party tested for heavy metals and microbials and leads the way with third-party testing, so you can be sure products are always safe. Hiya’s third party testing ensures all products adhere to CA Prop 65 Level Standards – the strictest in the US. (I especially appreciate this, because most greens powders have problems with high amounts of heavy metals – since leafy greens are naturally higher in heavy metals because of how they are grown).
  • Designed specifically for kids (no adaptogens or stimulants meant for adults, but honestly, adults can drink it too – I prefer the Hiya Greens + Superfoods over my “adult” greens like AG1 – I just take a double scoop of it!).
  • Surprisingly tasty, comes in two flavors: chocolate and vanilla (my kids liked both, but prefer the vanilla – they say it tastes like a vanilla milkshake!)
  • Sent on a pediatrician-recommended monthly schedule with fresh refills.

And most importantly it’s made with the same standards and attention to detail I’ve come to trust from Hiya! It’s also Clean Label Project Certified, just like all of Hiya’s products.

How I Tested Hiya Greens With My Kids

Hiya recommends that you add 1 scoop of the greens powder into your favorite milk or milk alternative, and they also recommend either shaking it or using a frother to make sure it gets incorporated properly.

So I decided to add Hiya to a shaker bottle along with unsweetened almond milk, and give it to my kids that way! It was SUPER easy to make – took about 30 seconds and mixed perfectly.

The verdict? Both of my kids (ages 11 and 8) loved it immediately! They didn’t even have to think about it and just kept drinking it. I tasted it too, and I thought it was delicious. The vanilla flavor is subtle, not overly sweet but just sweet enough to enjoy. It also doesn’t taste like greens at all, which is rare for a product like this.

We now use it every day as part of breakfast or snack time. It’s not a replacement for vegetables , but I’ve found it’s a helpful way to bridge the gap or just add a boost of healthy greens on busy days.

What’s Inside Hiya Daily Greens?

Hiya Greens includes over 55 ingredients grouped into four key blends:

  • Greens Blend: e.g. spinach, kale, chlorella, wheatgrass
  • Superfoods Blend: e.g. broccoli, beet, blueberry, acai
  • Overall Wellness Blend: e.g. mushrooms, marine algae, calcium, magnesium, vitamin D
  • Digestive Support Blend: e.g. enzymes and fiber, whole grains like quinoa and buckwheat

Everything is plant-based, naturally flavored with organic vanilla and monk fruit, and formulated to be gentle on kids’ stomachs.

And as I’ve mentioned, Hiya also hits all of the major points when it comes to things I would recommend looking for when purchasing a greens powder:

  • High quality ingredients
  • Large variety of greens and superfoods
  • Free from GMOs, gluten, dairy, soy, and major allergens
  • Third-party tested for heavy metals and microbials
  • Manufactured in the USA in FDA-registered facilities, and comply with cGMP standards

What Makes Hiya Greens Different From Other Kids’ Powders?

Most “kids’ greens” products either taste awful, don’t mix well (are grainy), have lower quality ingredients, or are just watered-down versions of adult blends.

What I’ve found that sets Hiya apart is their greens are:

  • Designed just for kids: No caffeine, adaptogens, or harsh ingredients.
  • No sugar, artificial dyes, or weird sweeteners:  I love the monk fruit.
  • Easy to mix: Dissolves well in basically everything – milk, smoothies, or baked goods.
  • Trusted formulation: Created with pediatricians and nutritionists.

It felt to me like Hiya took a really thoughtful approach with every component when developing their greens. It supports your kids’ daily nutrition in an instant.

How My Family Uses It

Once my kids got used to drinking their greens with almond milk, we’ve tried other ways of using it including:

  • Mixing it into smoothies
  • Adding to muffin batter or pancake batter
  • Stirred into overnight oats or yogurt bowls

For picky eaters or kids with texture aversions, I’d recommend starting small and mixing it into something your kid already likes (for example, a smoothie with banana, oat milk, and a little cinnamon or peanut butter).

Pros And Cons

While no greens powder is perfect, I have to admit that Hiya comes pretty close! Here’s what I see are the pros and cons of their greens, so you can determine whether it’s a good fit for your family:

Pros:

  • Super clean, real-food ingredients
  • Kid-friendly vanilla flavor
  • Mixes well, tastes amazing
  • Comes in two flavors
  • No added sugar or artificial anything
  • Safe, pediatrician-approved, and third-party tested
  • Great for filling in nutrition gaps

Cons:

  • Not sold in stores (only available direct online)
  • Some kids may need time to get used to the flavor
  • Higher price point than generic powders, but better quality in my opinion!

Is Hiya Greens Right For Your Child?

If your child is a picky eater, avoids vegetables, or just needs extra support with whole-food nutrition, Hiya Greens is a great option to consider.

It’s especially helpful for:

  • Busy mornings when fresh produce isn’t happening
  • Kids who don’t like smoothies but need more greens
  • Families who prioritize clean, sugar-free supplements

And if you’re already using Hiya’s multivitamin like we are, this is a natural add-on to round out your child’s nutrition routine.

How Does Hiya Compare To Other Kids’ Greens?

I decided to compare Hiya’s Daily Greens to two other popular kids’ greens supplements on the market today: Beam and Grüns.

Here’s how they all stacked up!

What I Noticed:

  • Hiya is the cleanest in terms of sugar, allergens, and testing, and works great for everyday nutrition support.
  • Beam is comparable to Hiya, but is more expensive and has fewer ingredients (and doesn’t have the vanilla flavor my kids love)
  • Grüns is convenient and fun with their gummies and single-use pouches, but it has tons of sugar and requires that your child eats 6 gummies a day which isn’t great for dental health and just for added sugar in their diet.
