Ditalini is a type of Italian pasta which is often used in soups such as minestrone. This pasta shape is about 1cm long and round with a hole in the middle. 55. Drum Fish

Drum fish is a type of freshwater fish which can be found in rivers and lakes around North America. It has a firm, meaty texture and is often eaten breaded or blackened. It can be baked, fried, grilled, smoked and broiled.

56. Dover Sole

Dover sole is a type of flatfish with mottled skin. The meat is firm and traditionally skinned on the top only. To cook, you can grill, fry or poach dover sole. Flavoring with butters and sauces such as lemon and parsley compliments the dover sole well.

57. Dogfish

Dogfish is actually a type of shark that is quite popular to eat in parts of Europe as it has quite a sweet yet mild taste. The meat is flaky and is used to make fish tacos, stews, soups, and fillets.

Deer meat is most commonly known as venison which encompasses deer, elk, caribou, buffalo, antelope, wild boar, and hare.

Demitasse is both tye type of cup an espresso is served in, as well as the type of espresso served in that cup! They are incredibly tiny cups holding 2-3 fluid ounces and are half the size of a regular cup. Demitasse coffee is a strong black coffee, and the cups are usually used to serve a shot of espresso or other concentrated drinks e.g. hot chocolate or Greek coffee.

  1. I never knew there were so many different food that started with the letter “D,” how fun! My favorites are definitely dill, delicata squash, dragon fruit, and daiquiris. But there are some here I’ve never heard of, so I’ll have to try!

  2. WOW! Such an informative interesting read. I poured myself a cup of tea and enjoyed a good half hour reading about all the wonderful foods available and only dreaming about trying some of the exotic fruits. As trying to source them in the Scottish Highlands may be a tad difficult. Thanks 🙂
