As someone who is always looking for great ways to turn unhealthy fan favorites into affordable, delicious, and healthier dishes — air fryer garlic bread was a no-brainer. There’s something so rewarding about making your own Italian garlic bread and having it taste just as good as the kind you used to buy at the store.

  • French Baguettes: This is easily my favorite type of bread for this easy garlic bread recipe! That being said, you can absolutely swap it out for any whole loaf of bread or hearty sandwich bread you like.
  • Vegan Butter: Use whichever kind you like best. If you’re not worried about keeping this easy air fryer garlic bread recipe vegan, feel free to use regular soft butter.
  • Minced Garlic: For the most delicious flavor, I highly recommend getting fresh garlic cloves and mincing them yourself. However, jarred minced garlic, garlic powder, or garlic salt work in a pinch if needed.
  • Fresh Herbs: Fresh parsley is the classic garlic bread pairing, but you can also switch it up with rosemary, thyme, chives, or basil. Any mixture of Italian herbs will work well. The key is making sure to use fresh herbs, not the dried versions – they a great way to add flavor to your garlic mixture!

  • Gluten-Free: You can easily make this into vegan gluten-free garlic bread by swapping out the bread for your favorite gluten-free bread. Alternatively, you could make your own gluten-free bread from scratch. Just make sure you have active dry yeast on hand!

Grab a slice of your delicious garlic bread, load it up with your toppings of choice (deli meat, fresh tomatoes, vegan or dairy cheese, fresh herbs, black pepper, etc.), and top it off with another slice of garlic bread! Just like that, you’ve got the ultimate sandwich.
  • Pesto Garlic Bread: Take this recipe to another level by spreading your favorite pesto (or make your own vegan pesto) on top of the bread before placing it in the air fryer.

Here’s how to make the best vegan garlic bread in the air fryer:

Preheat & Prep The Slices Of Bread : Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F or 180ºC. Cut the french baguette or bread into halves.

Make The Vegan Garlic Butter Filling: In a small bowl, mix the butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley until combined.

Make The Bread: Spread the homemade garlic butter mixture over the baguette halves until evenly covered.

Cook Garlic Bread: Place each bread slice in the air fryer tray and cook for 8-10 minutes until it has crispy edges and is golden brown on top.

Cool And Serve: Remove the bread from the air fryer basket and let it cool down for a minute or two. Cut into 1-inch slices (or 2-inch slices for thicker slices) and top with fresh herbs and a pinch of salt.

❓Recipe FAQs

Is store-bought garlic bread vegan?

Probably not. While I certainly can’t speak for every brand out there, I can say that most garlic bread served at restaurants and found in stores is not vegan since it uses regular butter. One of the reasons I love making it at home so much is because you can control exactly what goes into your recipe, so you’ll never have to wonder if it’s vegan!

What to serve with garlic bread?

You can serve this with any of your favorite dishes, from soups and salads to pasta and pizza. Some of my favorite ways to serve this homemade garlic bread include pairing it with this pumpkin and sweet potato soup, Instant Pot tomato soup, vegetarian pesto pasta, and zucchini pizza boats. You can also just serve it plain with some pizza sauce for dipping! Any of these choices would make the perfect pairing!

What if I don’t have an air fryer?

Don’t have the ability to air fry garlic bread? Don’t worry, you can bake vegan garlic bread in the oven and still get amazing results! To cook this dish in the oven, simply preheat to 350ºF (180ºC) and bake in the preheated oven on a baking sheet or baking tray for 10 minutes until golden and crispy. Just like that, you’ve got the perfect side dish!

How long does vegan garlic bread last?

If you wind up with leftover garlic bread, you can store your pieces in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. If you want it to last longer, store it in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months.

To freeze: I recommend separating each piece of bread with a single layer of parchment paper. If you don’t have a spare airtight container, you can wrap the bread slices in plastic wrap, then again in aluminum foil.

To reheat, simply let it thaw in the fridge overnight and pop into a 350ºF oven for 8-10 minutes. Alternatively, you could toss your frozen garlic bread in the air fryer for 12-14 minutes. It’s just like cooking Texas Toast in the air fryer!

💭 Expert Tips

  • If you prefer your bread on the softer side, make sure to start with soft, fluffy bread like a fresh baguette. You can never go wrong with fresh bakery bread! Then, you can cook it for slightly less time if needed. I recommend checking it after 6-8 minutes in the air fryer to see if it’s been cooked to your liking.
  • If you like your bread with crispier crust, add an additional minute or two to the cook time or use a crusty bread like ciabatta bread or sourdough bread for crispy vegan garlic bread. Whatever you do, avoid using stale bread!
  • Worried about soggy bread? A good option for avoiding this is to spread a thin layer of garlic butter onto your bread, making sure to evenly coat it all the way to the edges.
  • For the best results, try to avoid refrigerating your bread if you can help it. Garlic bread will stay the freshest when stored on the counter and can dry out quickly in the fridge.

  • 2 Small French baguettes or 1 loaf of fresh whole wheat bread
  • 2 tbsp Vegan butter
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • Fresh parsley or herbs for topping
