Where to buy Holle, HiPP and Lebenswert formula in the US: The Best Trustworthy Vendors in 2023!

Holle, HiPP, and Lebenswert formula

Many of you know that when I had my daughter, breastfeeding was not easy. I stuck with it for as long as I could, but eventually I needed to supplement with formula. After a ton of online research, discussions with doctors, and conversations with friends, I came up with this list of the best organic baby formulas (with Holle, HiPP, and Lebenswert formula ranking at the top of the list).

In coming up with the list, I realized that all of the healthiest baby formulas are produced in Europe. So in addition to identifying the formulas, I needed to find reliable places to buy European formula in the US.

The good news is – since my daughter was born in 2014, there are many more places where you can buy baby formula in the US! The bad news is, there are also still a lot of untrustworthy vendors out there. That’s why I have created a thorough screening process to find the most most trustworthy online vendors that I could feel comfortable recommending as places to buy Holle, HiPP and Lebenswert formula in the US.

As of January 2022, the below 9 online retailers are the safest and most reliable places to buy European formulas.

Some of the items below were given to me to review by the manufacturer or as part of an affiliate program. I may receive commissions if you make a purchase through the links provided. I only recommend products I’ve actually evaluated, I believe are the highest quality, and can do the most to help you and your family. By purchasing any of these products from the links below, you help keep this blog running, so thanks for your support!

My recommendations are based on the manufacturer’s claims and ingredients list, and what I feel best giving to my own family. Your individual results may be different based on your overall diet, exercise, age, weight, family history, or pre-existing conditions.

  1. Hi. I have loved reading your very informative site. I am on a Facebook group for Holle and HiPP, and from my research these are the best formulas money can buy. But, I am also reading a lot of negative stories as well and it seems many children are having difficulty adjusting to cows milk when the get older. I’m not sure if this is just because people are posting the bad stories and leaving out the good? With my first two children, we used Honest and they really did great. They are Now, it’s no longer on the market. We are about to have our third baby and would love to try these top, European brands but my wife and I are still uncertain. Plus, there are so many different options with the euro options it’s hard to narrow it down. It’s not like we can just run out to the store and pick up a single container to try it out. Anyway, thank you and I appreciate any feedback/guidance you can provide.

    • Hi David! Thanks for reaching out! To your question — I honestly have never heard feedback like this about Holle or HiPP being the direct cause of a difficult transition to cow’s milk later in life. So my assumption would be that the stories you’re seeing are more of the outlier than the norm, and also keep in mind that the people posting can’t actually make a causal statement about certain baby formulas causing difficult transitions to cow’s milk (it could be a whole host of other reasons specific to their babies). I have heard of babies who breastfeed exclusively having difficulty switching to cow’s milk at 12 months, but nothing related to formula feeding. As for which European formula to choose, HiPP Dutch is the best option on the market right now so that’s what I’d recommend. You can see how HiPP Dutch compares to all of the other European formulas in this post: https://pickyeaterblog.com/whats-the-best-organic-formula-for-your-baby/. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

  2. Thanks for this blog. My stage 2 formula is expiring soon, so was wondering if I could move my 4.5 month old daughter to German Hipp stage 2 earlier- say at 5 months. I assume that we should not use formula that is expired— even a couple weeks after expiry date, but can you confirm?

    • Hi! Yes I wouldn’t use expired formula. Technically Stage 2 isn’t for babies younger than 6 months of age — and Stage 1 can be used all the way up to 12 months of age. So I would actually just order more Stage 1 formula and use that until it’s finished and then switch your baby to Stage 2! It’s better to switch to Stage 2 at 7 months vs. 5 months if that’s what you’re choosing between to not waste any of the additional Stage 1 formula you order.

  3. Hi I just started to introduce to my 7 months baby the hipp stage 1 uk version so I am going to move to stage 2 but which one is best uk Germany or ducth? . She was just breastfeeding and I introduced stage 1 since 3 weeks ago because is first time and to see if she tolerates it.. and so far so good . So I want to buy stage 2 I got from formuland but they are out stock and I glad I found this post . I live in Ca so checking where I can find it and fast delivery

      • oh tks for your answer I did not see it and I was writing again > so is better dutch? what is the difference between them Germany uk and Dutch. I saw Germany also has one not starch, so I can introduce right away when I finished the stage 1 that I have? . my baby has not colic or constipation… nothing with the uk

      • Hi Juliana! HiPP Dutch Stage 2 has no added soy or starch. HiPP Germany Stage 2 has added starch and HiPP UK Stage 2 has added soy. That’s why I recommend HiPP Dutch. Hope that helps!

  4. Could you please help me to find a reliable place to buy HIPP Anti Reflux ( UK version – 800 g )?
I tried all the portals shared in this post but they don’t have it.
    Thank you in advance.
I found a seller in Ebay, but I don’t know if is a good idea 🙁

  5. Hi Anjali,

First off, I have found your posts so helpful, thank you!!!

My son, now 7 months seems to have multiple food intolerances. He has really bad reflux as well. We had the same problems with my daughter who is now just 3. Sadly, despite my greatest efforts I am no longer breastfeeding. Anyway, we have tried many formulas, including elemental formulas. I am currently giving goat milk formula a try. I would love for KAbrita USA to work, but being there is soy oil and I think it’s a possible intolerance I have decided to try Holle bio stage 2. As you know, it doesn’t provide prebiotics or DHA. I was wondering if you had a recommendation for a high quality dha product that could be added to the formula? Also, is there a particular prebiotic you recommend? Thank you for your time 🙂
    brittany

    • Hi Brittany! Thanks for reaching out and I’m so glad my blog has been helpful to you! To your question, I’d recommend Nordic Naturals infant DHA. For a probiotic, I’d recommend this one from Garden of Life. For prebiotics, there actually isn’t a good infant prebiotic supplement, but you can give him foods that are rich in prebiotics like: under-ripe bananas, oats, artichokes, asparagus, leeks, psyllium, whole grain wheat, whole grain corn, and chicory. Hope that helps!

  6. Hi, is there information on how you’ve vetted these vendors, in particular the ones based in Europe? E.g questions you’ve asked, and/or information received? What got you comfortable that they are safe and reliable vendors?

    • Hi Loretta! I haven’t detailed that in a particular post because it would be much too long! The short answer is: prior to including any vendor in my list, I make sure to get all of their documentation in addition to speaking with them multiple times to understand their supply chain, operations, customer support, storage and distribution practices, safety standards, etc. Additionally, I connect with all of these vendors on a bi-weekly to monthly basis, keeping in touch with their operations, shipping and storage practices, warehouse and supply chain development, and suppliers from where they’re getting their formula. I’m happy to share more details or answer any other specific questions you have over email as well! Feel free to reach out to me if you need more info!

  7. Where is the best place to resale a brand new case of Lebenswert stage 1? We are in Seattle; I have five boxes left from our baby that are not expired until 2021 and just wld like it to go to some family that uses the same brand!
    Cheers,
    Stacey
    Seattle wa!

  8. Hi!

The HIPP Dutch is currently sold out on all the sites provided, or only have 6 packs or more available. I’m ok with getting the HIPP UK or German, but what does “follow on” mean? I’m hesitant in case it’s different than just the regular option.
    Thanks!

  9. Hi everyone! New first-time aunt here. My FaceBook-less sister had her first baby a few months ago and he is not doing well on US formula (Enfamil and Similac). I have heard great things about European formula brands like HiPP and Holle so I recommended them to her, but upon learning it is not FDA approved, she became very apprehensive. She wants to make sure it is a healthy choice despite not being approved in the US, and is nervous about purchasing the formula as a New York Times article she read says European formula is illegal to sell in the US, so she doesn’t understand how she can legally purchase it. Are there any legal, registered business she can buy it from? We looked on Amazon and at Target but don’t offer it. Why aren’t those businesses allowed to sell it and some are? Any advice or knowledge I can pass on to her to make her feel like she has all the information she needs to make the best choice for her sweet boy? Thank you for your help!

  10. Thank you for this great blog. I purchase Hipp from Huggable and I thought it would be useful to update the information given the new shipping issues at Huggable. 15-20 Business Days now unless you pay for Expedited which is 7-10 business days. I used My Organic Company this time due to this long delay.

    Important Shipping Update
Here at Huggable, we are absolutely passionate about infant formula. That’s because we know how important it is for your baby to have the best possible start in life. Our mission is to stock the highest quality formulas so that you can confidently feed your little one the best formula.
We’re writing to update you about some recent changes we’ve made. Due to increased demand for our products, we have started shipping formula directly from Europe to our U.S. customers. We made this change to ensure that you and your family always have enough formula on hand.
Unfortunately, this change has led to temporary complications with our shipping process, and it is taking longer than normal for some customers to receive their orders. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these delays may cause, and we are doing everything we can to find an alternate shipping strategy.
In the meantime, please note that for the next couple of weeks, it may take up to 15 business days for you to receive your order. We realize that this is significantly longer than our usual delivery time frame of 7 to 10 business days, and we are very sorry about this. Also, since bulk orders are coming in directly from Europe, a signature is required for the delivery of your package.
We want you to have access to the very best formulas from Europe, and we’re doing everything we can to get those formulas to you in a timely manner. Please be assured that we are working hard to resolve these issues and get our delivery times back on track. We always strive to make purchasing formula from Huggable a positive experience, and we truly value all of our customers.

    • Hi Nioka! Thanks for sharing your experience! I am aware of the shipping issues at Huggable but they have assured me it’s just a temporary issue, and that it should be resolved in a couple of weeks. If this turns out to be a permanent change then I will update my post for sure. Thanks again and I’m glad you were able to find what you needed at MyOrganicCompany!

  11. Hello anjali!
I m traveling Soon n my flight is 24 hrs long and I was looking into ready to feed stage 1- Dutch . What I found online was hipp-pre German brand will that be ok to use while traveling?

  12. I am noticing that all baby oat cereal is sold out at these businesses. Does this have to do with an article I read about selling formula and European foods in US is illegal since they are not FDA regulated? I bought all the euro cereals for my son 2 years ago with no problems.

    • Hi Cynthia! Demand for these cereals is just very high now (even compared to 2 years ago), which is why they are sometimes out of stock. To my knowledge it has nothing to do with the article you’re referring to. But some of these cereals are back in stock now — e.g. at OrganicBabyFood — so you should be able to order them if you need to!

  13. Hi Anjali!
I’ve been buying the Hipp Infant formula stage 1-UK version from Huggable thanks to you! But they are currently sold out and we are running low:( Do you know if the Dutch or German version are the same?

    • Hi Jackie! Yes the Dutch or German HiPP would be a totally fine replacement for UK! The Dutch version is actually a little bit better in terms of ingredients! Huggable will be back in stock on January 10th, so if you can wait that long you can just order UK from them. If you need the formula sooner than that and need fast shipping, I’d recommend ordering German HiPP from Bottles and Burps because they’ll get it to you asap! Hope that helps!

  14. Hi Anjali! I usually buy from Bottles and Burps but they were out of stock.
Have you ever heard about Organicbabyfood.shop?

    • Hi! Bottles and Burps should be back in stock now! I haven’t heard of organicbabyfood.shop and haven’t been in touch with anyone there yet. But will update this post if I end up speaking with them and getting a sense of their operations!

  15. Do you have any idea how they are shipped or quality control? For example temperatures during transport and storage?

    • Hi Lindsey! All of the vendors I recommend, especially Huggable, have thoroughly researched this topic to ensure that they know the optimal temperature for shipping and storing baby formula. To read about the results of a study on the effects of high temperatures on formula quality, please check out their recent article, which discusses how powdered baby formula only begins to break down if the formula is stored at very high temperatures (ie. 131°F) for a period of two weeks or more. Huggable (and all of the vendors I recommend) guarantee that their formulas are always kept at an appropriate temperature during the shipping, warehousing, and delivery process. All of their formulas are shipped from Europe to the United States via air freight in order to minimize transport times and ensure that the products are always kept cool. When the shipments reach the U.S., they are kept in climate-controlled warehouses, ready to be delivered to customers as soon as an order comes in! I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

  16. What is the difference between Hipp Comfort and Hipp HA? My son is currently on Hipp HA Stage 1. I am looking to upgrade to Stage 2 but am concerned about the soy lecithin in the Hipp HA version. Also, any concern regarding the extraction method for the LCP oils in the Hipp formulas? Thanks!

    • Hi Melissa! The main difference is that HiPP Comfort has a reduced lactose content and modified fats compared to HiPP HA. Regarding the extraction method of the LCP oils – I haven’t found this to be an issue but I detail exactly why in this post here (just scroll down to the section where I talk about hexane extraction)! Hope that helps!

  17. Hi Anjali!
Is Organic Baby Shop (organicbabyshop.com) a reputable retailer in the US? I’ve ordered once from them so far with no issues, but it was also our first time trying Hipp Dutch. Thanks for any input!

    • Hi Jenny! I honestly don’t know! I haven’t heard of them and aren’t in contact with them, so I haven’t vetted them one way or the other. They could be totally fine, I just can’t vouch for them myself!
